Admissions Overview
Welcome to the Admissions website for the Master’s Degree In One Health at the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University. Here you will find information about eligibility, admissions requirements, and the stages of our selection process. Our review process aligns with our mission to prepare future one health professionals to serve society in a multitude of roles. To that end, we aim to admit a group of students that will thrive in a rigorous and synergistic learning environment and upon graduation be well-prepared to serve a diverse society. We hope you are as excited as we are about the future of One Health in New Jersey and beyond. The program received Internal approval through Rowan University in December 2025 and received state approval in January 2026.Eligibility Criteria
The Master of One Health (MSOH) program at the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University welcomes applications from individuals with a strong interest in interdisciplinary health sciences and a desire to address complex challenges at the interface of human, animal, and environmental health. To ensure a successful academic experience, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Academic Background:
- A bachelor’s degree (BS or BA) from an accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 grading scale) is required. If a non-US grading scale is used, applicants are required to submit/complete a WES Credential Application (ICAP) application.
- Completion of 6 credits in Chemistry, including General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry, each with a laboratory component and a minimum grade of C- in each course.
- Completion of 3 credits in General Biology with a minimum grade of C-.
- Completion of 3 credits in Calculus or Statistics with a minimum grade of C-.
Standardized Testing:
- The GRE is not required, aligning with the program's holistic and inclusive review of applicants.
- International applicants from non-English speaking countries are required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores to demonstrate English language proficiency. A minimum TOEFL score of 80, with at least 20 in each section, or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 in each band, is required.
Letters of Recommendation:
- Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation, ideally from individuals familiar with the applicant’s academic, professional, or research capabilities. Letters from faculty members, employers, or mentors who can attest to the applicant's potential for graduate-level study are strongly preferred. Recommendation writers can submit their finished letter to SSVM_MSOH_admissions@rowan.edu
Experience:
- Prior animal, health-related, and/or environmental science experiences are encouraged but not required. The program values a diversity of backgrounds and encourages applicants from a broad range of disciplines, including biological sciences, public health, environmental science, and allied health fields. Applicants must submit a brief statement highlighting any relevant experiences and explaining how their background will contribute to the interdisciplinary goals of the MSOH program.

Selection Process and Timeline
Phase 1: Submit application (February 2026- April 15, 2026):
Applicants can submit their application online here. Applications for the Fall 2026 semester can be submitted through April 15, 2026 (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time).The components of a completed application include the following:
- Application Form: Completed online application form
- Application Fee: A one-time, non-refundable $95.00 (USD) check made out to Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine
- Letters of Recommendation: Three letters of recommendation, emailed by the recommender, to SSVM_MSOH_admissions@rowan.edu
- Official Transcripts: Official transcripts for all post-secondary colleges and universities attended sent to the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University
- English Language Proficiency Exams: For international applicants (degrees conferred in a language other than English), send a copy of your TOEFL/IETLS scores to the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University.
Phase 2: Application Review (April 15, 2026-May 15, 2026):
In this stage applicants will be evaluated based on academic and non-academic performance using the information provided in the application package (including transcripts and letters of recommendation). Only completed applications will be reviewed.Academic Performance Evaluation:
Evidence of academic ability to succeed in this graduate program will be gathered from academic transcripts. All courses grades, including repeated courses, will be factored into this assessment.
Non-Academic Performance Evaluation:
While academic performance is an important metric when selecting students for a graduate curriculum, it is only one determinant of what constitutes success as a graduate student and ultimately as a One Health professional. SSVM uses a holistic approach to identify individuals who have the attributes necessary to meet the SSVM mission to develop skillful, confident, and compassionate professionals in a collaborative environment that values trust, respect, empathy, and public service. Criteria reviewed include but are not limited to the following:
- Personal statements
- Letters of reference- minimum of three required
- Motivation for a One Health career, including breadth and depth of animal, health-related and/or environmental science experiences
- Awards and achievements
- Community service
- Experiences outside of One Health (e.g. jobs, unique life experiences, significant hobbies)
The top ranked candidates from Stage 2 will advance to Stage 3.
Phase 3: Interview (May 15, 2026 to June 15, 2026):
Interviews will be conducted virtually using a traditional question/answer format. We anticipate interviews to occur between mid-May to mid-June 2026. Interview questions that the applicant may be asked include those related to information the applicant submitted with their information (One Health experiences, essay response). Additional questions asked during interviews may include, but are not limited to, questions about the applicant’s motivation for a career in One Health (career aspirations). Applicants selected for an interview will be provided instructions at that time regarding how schedule and complete their interview. Interview invitations will be emailed from SSVM_MSOH_admissions@rowan.edu to applicants via the primary email listed on their application.Phase 4: Acceptance Offers (June 15, 2026 to July 15, 2026):
Following interviews, the MSOH admissions task force will identify successful candidates and extend them an offer of admission into the MSOH and/or dual DVM-MSOH program. Admission offers will be emailed from SSVM_MSOH_admissions@rowan.edu to applicants via the primary email listed on their application. Candidates will have until June 15, 2026 to confirm their acceptance for the Fall 2026 semester.Additional Information
Tuition Information:
Graduate students at Rowan University pay the same tuition and fees rates irrespective of their state of residency (e.g., there are no added charges for out of state applicants). What non-academic qualities are you looking for in a candidate?
At Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine, we conduct a holistic review of eligible candidates for the Master’s Degree in One Health program. A holistic admissions process allows us to consider many factors beyond GPA. These include but are not limited to demonstrated enthusiasm for One Health, one’s breadth and depth of One Health experiences (e.g., animal and human medical work, environmental and field work, legislative and policy-based work, etc.), extracurricular experiences, employment, achievements, awards, and community service. Using a brief essay prompt (embedded into the application form), applicants will be given the opportunity to share their unique stories and what makes them suitable candidates for graduate studies in One Health at the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University.
Do I need a bachelor’s degree to apply for the Master’s in One Health program?
A minimum of a baccalaureate degree (BA/BS) is required to apply, and it can be in progress at the time of applying. The bachelor’s degree can be in any subject as long as all pre-requisite coursework is completed as part of the degree and/or as additional coursework. Successful applicants who have not completed their bachelor’s degree will receive a conditional offer of acceptance where successful degree completion needs to be confirmed prior to matriculation.

What is the application fee and how do I pay it?
The application fee is a one-time, non-refundable $95.00 (USD). Applicants will pay this as a check made out to the “Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine”. Applicants can mail the check to the following address:

How many students will you accept into your program?
We plan to admit 10 students each fall. Our inaugural class will start during the Fall 2026 semester.
Are you requiring any standardized tests (e.g. GRE) to apply?
We do not require any standardized tests and if submitted, they will not be evaluated as part of the admissions process.
What academic metrics will you be evaluating during the admissions process?
We will be evaluating overall GPA and performance in pre-requisite coursework. You must submit OFFICIAL transcripts from every postsecondary institution you have attended, including community colleges. Academic performance should reflect the candidate’s ability to succeed in a rigorous Master’s degree program.
Do all prerequisites have to be completed before I apply?
Prerequisites may be in progress at the time of application and/or during the interview process. If a candidate has prerequisites in progress and receives an offer, this offer will be conditional on the successful completion of all prerequisites prior to admission into the MSOH program.
Do you accept online courses/labs?
Online courses from accredited institutions that meet the standards of the equivalent in-person prerequisites will be accepted. This includes the prerequisite courses that require a laboratory component.

Which transcripts do I need to submit?
You must submit official transcripts from every higher education institution you have attended, even if it does not seem relevant to the Master’s Degree in One Health program or you did not complete a degree at the institution.
I am currently enrolled as a DVM student at the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine. Can I enroll in this program as a dual degree student?
The Master's Degree in One Health program welcomes current Shreiber School DVM students (years 1, 2, and 3) to apply for dual enrollment into this graduate program. For the Fall 2026 application cycle, we have one seat dedicated to a dual DVM-MSOH applicant. For the dual DVM–MSOH program, up to 10 credits from research elective courses completed within the DVM professional program may be applied toward the MSOH degree requirements.
I am interested in applying to the DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) program at SSVM. Can I apply directly to this program by submitting a dual DVM-MSOH application?
The dual DVM-MSOH program application is only open to currently enrolled Shreiber School DVM students. Prospective DVM students need to apply separately to our DVM Program using the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS). Application procedures and other information about our DVM admissions process can be found here.
What are Rowan University’s deferral policies?
Successful applicants that need to defer their acceptance may request deferral for up to one year (e.g., Fall 2027 semester start date for an applicant originally accepted to start during the Fall 2026 semester.) Please contact SSVM_MSOH_admissions@rowan.edu for more information and to initiate the deferral process.
