The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Program
When will the DVM program start?
Pending accreditation approval, the school plans to welcome its first class in fall 2025.
Where will the veterinary school be located?
The School will be located on Rowan University's west campus in the southern New Jersey town of Glassboro, 18 miles southeast of Philadelphia. The planned 167,000-square-foot veterinary school facility will include state-of-the-art academic classrooms, educational and diagnostic laboratories and teaching hospital facilities.
Where will students receive clinical training?
Students will primarily receive clinical training within Rowan facilities, including a small animal teaching hospital, equine/large animal ambulatory service, and shelter medicine facilities. Outside clinical partners will be utilized as well.
Is SSVM the only veterinary school in New Jersey?
The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University will be the first and only veterinary school in the state of New Jersey. The addition of the veterinary school will make Rowan one of only two universities in the nation offering Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Doctor of Medicine, and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degrees.
What is the class size?
We plan to welcome our first class of 70 students in fall 2025. We expect to grow our class size to 90 students per year.
How long is the DVM program?
The DVM program is a four-year doctoral degree program, consisting of pre-clinical and clinical portions.
Is the veterinary school fully accredited?
A letter of intent was submitted to the AVMA COE and the School’s request for a Consultative Site Visit was approved. The Consultative Site Visit was completed in May 2023. This visit was followed by a Comprehensive Site Visit in April 2024. Successful completion of this step made the program eligible for a Letter of Reasonable Assurance, which would allow for matriculation of our inaugural class.
What other veterinary programs and degrees do you plan on offering?

Do you require a specific undergraduate major for admission into your veterinary school?
We anticipate that as long as you complete the required prerequisite courses, a specific college major is not required for admission.
How much veterinary experience do I need?
Hands on veterinary experience helps applicants develop a realistic and appropriate perspective of the responsibilities of the veterinary profession. Your experience may come from a job or volunteer service, time spent in a veterinary practice, working in an agricultural setting, animal shelters, zoos, aquariums, research, etc. Experience under the supervision of a veterinarian is beneficial. What criteria will SSVM use in selecting applicants?
Selection criteria will include a combination of academic performance and fulfillment of required prerequisite course work, as well as non-academic factors such as veterinary and other work experiences, letters of recommendation, leadership and community service, life experiences, and motivation for a veterinary career.
Are my chances of admission better if I attend Rowan University as an undergraduate?
You may attend any accredited college or university, including Rowan University. Attending Rowan’s undergraduate program does not change how your application is evaluated.
Do you plan on accepting transfer students?
Applications from students in other AVMA COE accredited programs may be considered if available positions exist.
Do international students have to take the TOEFL?
