Veterinary Anatomic Pathology Residency Program
Program Overview
The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine (SSVM) at Rowan University invites applications for a Post-Graduate Residency in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology, beginning July 1, 2026. This full-time, 3-year residency is designed to prepare candidates for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP).
Training Sites
Residents will rotate between:
- SSVM in Glassboro, NJ
- New Jersey Animal Health Diagnostic Laboratory (NJ AHDL) in Ewing, NJ
Mentorship
Training will be guided by:
- 2 ACVP-board certified anatomic pathologists at SSVM
- 2 anatomic pathologists at NJ AHDL
- 1 ACVP-board certified clinical pathologists at SSVM
Clinical Experience
Residents will gain hands-on experience with a diverse caseload including:
- Companion animals (dogs, cats)
- Horses and small ruminants
- Backyard poultry
- Exotic species
- Marine mammals
Educational Activities
Residents will participate in:
- Gross pathology rounds
- Microscopic pathology rounds
- Specialty and clinical pathology rounds
- Teaching fourth-year veterinary students
- Presenting at regional and national conferences
- Conducting small research projects for peer-reviewed publication
Eligibility
Applicants must hold a DVM or equivalent degree from an AVMA accredited College of Veterinary Medicine, be eligible for a New Jersey veterinary license, and demonstrate a strong interest in diagnostic pathology and academic medicine.

Rowan University
The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine is New Jersey’s first veterinary school. The inaugural DVM class started in fall 2025. A 167,000 square-foot building houses a full-service small animal teaching hospital, an academic facility with lab and classroom space, as well as research laboratory space. Services provided will include primary care, emergency, anesthesia, cardiology, critical care, dermatology, dentistry, exotics, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, radiology, clinical pathology, anatomic pathology, and surgery.
